. this morning the search for a new brief in san jose is about to hit second gear. the first of four community meetings gets under way today where city leaders hope to get feedback from local neighborhoods on what they want in a new chief. damian trujillo is live at the berryessa community center where the first of the meetings will be held tonight. damian, good morning. you're already hearing about some possible candidates for the job? >> reporter: yeah, we hear about a couple of people who might be interested in applying for the police chief position. i'm give you those names in just a bit. this meeting tonight is at 6:30. no one is denying that fixing this ship or righting this ship is going to be an easy task. the new chief will have to deal with lower morale and a dwindling budget, so it will be a tough task. a few months ago chris moore announced he'd be retiring by january 31st. he leaves a department that is nowhere near the staffing levels he feels are needed to keep the city and his officers safe. the new chief will have to come in and play a political card game basically, working wi

roadwork until 11:00 this morning. westbound drive is looking good. >>> san jose police hope a reward will help entice the community to help them catch a second robber in a violent crime spree that killed an innocent bystander and injured an officer. kira klapper is at the san jose police department. >> reporter: good morning. the police officers association is offering a $10,000 reward, hoping someone can lead them to the accomplice of jonathan wilbanks together they went on a violent crime spree he's already under arrest, police are looking for his partner crime. they don't have a name or description both were said to be wearing ski masks. it began before 7:30 friday night when they robbed a little caesar's on story road, then a gas station, an hour after that a jack-in-the-box. police say the pair didn't hurt anyone until they reached the 7-eleven, where they shot and killed 22-year-old campbell resident in an attempted carjacking. police spotted the pair, the pair initiated a shootout with officers. one officer was grazed at the hip by a bullet before thened up catching wilbanks.

at the airports in oakland and san jose. a lot of people heading back home after the thanksgiving holiday. you should call ahead, though, if you are heading to the airport this morning. >>> 7:03. well a carbon monoxide scare in san francisco sense more than a dozen people to the hospital and -- sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and there's still a search of where it came from. ktvu's alex savidge is in san francisco. you've been on the story since 4:30. investigators are having a hard time finding answers. >> reporter: it's certainly been a challenge to figure out what made this family sick last night. a pg&e spokeswoman told me this morning that they had one of their representatives here at their house until late in the evening last night, trying to fick out a cause for the leak -- figure out a cause for the leak. he tested the unit upstairs and downstairs. and he didn't get any carbon monoxide readings in either case. firefighters came out here about 7:00 last night on cortland street in the bernal heights neighborhood in san francisco. a total of 14 people had to be transported

morning as far as the flow of traffic. here's 101 in san jose. no accidents or incidents around the bay right now. things change of course dramatically over just a few minutes so we'll track, but the map shows you a smooth flow in your northbound direction throughout. there's some construction but it is not on the freeways. we're watching the alameda as you're coming up through downtown. we have a smooth drive as well through livermore, eastbound construction and a little slowing. that's all, typical overnight. watching this area right by those paragon outlets. we have the shopping season starting up so i'll watch for any slowing. right now that yellow dip is just a little blip in the speeds, not a concern but i'll track it. >>> we should be learning more about that string of crimes in the south bay killing one man and ending in a shootout with two police officers. police arresting this man, 26-year-old jonathan wilbanks of san jose. they say he and a second suspect went on a crime spree allegedly robbing four businesses within two hours. after those robberies, police say the two shot a

san francisco 41-mile-per-hour wind gusts, oakland 35 miles per hour, san jose 32. we are now in between weather systems. cbs 5 hi-def doppler showing completely dry conditions right now this break will last until tomorrow afternoon. that's a nice chunk of time we'll be without rainfall. then here comes the heavy stuff that's going to hit north of the golden gate first. and then we all will share in that heavy rainfall by friday morning. it's going to get sloppy, punch numbers 2 and 3 from mother nature involving tropical moisture. i have colored it in green. it's going to be carried into the bay area by a strong area of low pressure and several inches of rainfall still likely beginning friday and lasting through the weekend. let's talk specifics now. sonoma county still looking at 6 to 9" of total rainfall by monday. marin county less but a lot. 6" in alameda county. santa clara county 2 to 5." so flooding is a possibility with rainfall totals like that. we'll talk more about the specific timing and when that sunshine going to coming back coming up. >> thank you. >>> the wet

is that he was 37 years old and from san jose. those two officers, which is standard in a situation like this, have been put on paid administrative leave. one was new to the force, having been with the fremont police from three years. the other was a 20-year veteran. as far as the wife was concerned, we know that she was not hurt, physically not hurt. we don't know her status if she is on the scene or perhaps down at the police department being interviewed now you can see there are still several squad cars out here as the police investigate the scene. one officer says they could be out here for quite some time, suggesting that maybe this road could be shutdown for part of the morning commute. so again, if do you have business in fremont, central shut down here at glenmore to logan. so, you're looking at one city block that is shutdown. could be quite some time before they are able to get a reopened. live in fremont, bob redell, "today in the bay." >>> closing arguments in the case of a former school district worker accused of three violent sexual assaults in san francisco's mission district.

and the update on the investigation there to the case. >> reporter: yeah. i checked in with the san jose police department spokesperson for the update on this case. they are still search for a second suspect or at least that's what was happening all this week as they released a sketch on that expect now hee mailed me back and said per the homicide unit we aren't confirming or denying any new information. that came after i asked them if an arrest had been made. >> the man was shot and killed last week. one of the suspects a 26-year- old was in court wednesday. police say he and another man robbed four businesses, murdered a 22-year-old in a carjacking and participated in a shoot out with two officers one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. willbanks was arrested the next morning. officers released a sketch of the second suspect, a 20,000- dollar reward is being offered for his arrest. the funeral for the victim is being held this morning at 11. we will continue to talk to police and ask them about updates on that second suspect and bring you new information on

at a pretty good clip. during our drive up the road, up the hill from san jose we could see a lot of standing water. it was starting to pool along highway 17. obviously that making for hazardous driving conditions this morning. luckily though from what i could tell a lot of drivers seem to be taking it pretty slow. obviously there is a lot of blind turns and sharp curves as you come up highway 17. folks seem to be aware of that and taking their time this morning which is a good thing. but of course as we move throughout the morning, they will be finding obviously more people on the roadway the potential for accidents here. we'll continue to monitor this situation here. no accident here. none reported in this area thus far. we will continue to monitor the situation here in the santa cruz mountains. >> there are several power outages across the bay area because of the storm. here's a look at the bigger outages. according to pg&e in benicia there are nearly 3,000 people without power. in san bruno nearly 3300 people there in the dark. in san rafael there are about 1200 people without power. and
